Kittay House Chorus Honors Dr. Martin Luther King with Special Performance
Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of a beloved community strengthened by diversity and hope was honored on January 21st by the Kittay House Chorus. In recognition of the man who dreamed of and worked to achieve racial equality and civil rights, the 25-member strong singing group performed a special concert for fellow tenants, their guests and Bronx community members.
Among the selections performed were “Siyahamba,” a song in Swahili, which means “we are marching in the light of God;” the contemporary song, “I Believe I Can Fly;” “Let There be Peace on Earth,” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Kittay House Director Arlene Richman said, “Kudos to the Choir and its inspired leader, Christina Lee, a heavenly match. The program was an inspiring tribute to Dr. King and a testimony to Christina’s skill and the determination of the Kittay Choir Members. It was a proud moment for Kittay House.”
The male chorus members read excerpts from King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, inspiring all in attendance.
