Kittay House World War II Veteran Featured in Educational Video
When 92-year-old Murray Gittleman made the The New York Daily News headlines last November for his participation in an Occupy Wall Street march, the World War II veteran’s story caught the attention of a producer at Pearson Education who was working on an educational film.
The Pearson folks came to Kittay House and conducted a two-hour interview with Murray, a former Army Air Corp Tech Sergeant. A few weeks later, Murray was flown to Washington, DC to visit the Air Force and World War ll Memorials.
Escorted by a local high school student who served as the interviewer, Murray, dressed in his military garb, spoke eloquently about his recollections as a wave operator. This trip was the first time that Murray had the opportunity to visit the memorials and explore the Smithsonian Museum’s aircraft display.
Murray shared, “When I got out of the car, the first thing I saw was the statue of four service men representing the branches of the Armed Forces. I walked over, alone, feeling very emotional. I came to attention and saluted them with a tear in my eye.”
The five-minute educational film will provide high school students with a real-life look at WWII. “I feel quite humbled being able to represent my fellow World War II soldiers in this way. Many, many others did more than me.”
